“I hope we shall . . . crush in its birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength, and to bid defiance to the laws of their country”
WHO SAID IT?
A – Benedict Arnold
B – Bernie Sanders
C – Thomas Jefferson
Resistance to an oppressive monarchy and a burning desire for religious freedom are most often cited as the root issues behind the revolution which gave birth to our union. Yet many people would be surprised to know that money + politics were well recognized as a toxic combination as far is building a Government of the People was concerned. Since, under the current ‘rules’ of the game, technological advances place most of their economic benefits in the pockets of the ‘monied corporations’ instead of the society at large, perhaps it is important to revisit the warnings of the founding fathers on this issue. People like Thomas Jefferson.
